it is not that bad as i heard. It's amazing book, obviously with some guestionable scenes. What can i say more? I love some characters and hate the others. The world is stunning and all of the creatures, dragons (even if the appeared in the last chapter), direwolfs and everything else. The plot is that literally everyone eventually dies, but for sure i will read the rest of the books in the series

   George RR Martin accomplished two very hard things with this book: Criating an entire world from scratch that is beliveble and making each character with a POV sound like their own person. Everytime there was a description of a place, person or cultural aspect, the picture of Westeros became more and more clear in my mind. Truly amazing worldbuilding. 
   Having said that, I also think that this book was a bit to long and certainly dragged at parts. There were whole chapters comprised of pages of nothing with one tidbit of important information throw in the middle, all POVs suffered from that problem.
   I also found some of the charaters just plain annoying. Calelyn and Ned's poor decision making through out the whole story made me so mad. After a certain point, everything that happens of bad in this book can be traced back their shitty choices. And the more you learn about the other characters and how intelligent they are and how deep their scams go, the poor choices of those two only becomes more obvious and infuriating. Also, I didn't really care for Daenerys, mostly she just made me sad. I'm sure she will be one of the important figures in this series, but it's hard to read her story when all of it is just her being sexualy abused and beaten. News flash, being raped doesn't make anyone stronger or more powerful. And for all the people that said her relationship with Drogo was cute and romantic, please point me to what book you read, because clearly it wasn't this one.
   On the other hand, I really liked Tyrion, Arya and Jon, they are my favorites for now. Specially the last two, who have the combination of smarts and stubborness that I like. Bran seems to be in the brink of some kinda of magical awakening and I'm all here for it. And, contrary to most of what I have seen online, I didn't dislike Sansa. Sure she has a lot o character development to make, but she is just a scared child that no one bothered to tell about the dangers of the real world. 
    When it comes to characters who didn't have a POV, I'm very interested in Varys,  he seens to have big plans on the works behind everyone's backs. I also loved to hate the Lannisters, except Joffrey, he is just an asshole.

Review of A Game of Thrones

‘           Robert Baratheon’s, King of Westeros, Hand Jon Arryn has been murderer, and he wants his best friend Eddard Stark, Lord of North, to take Arryn’s place.  Leaving his family, with the exception of his daughters who are coming to King’s Landing, behind becomes Hand of the King.   He finds himself mixed up in the dangerous politics of King’s Landing and mystery behind the murder of Jon Arryn.  Can he trust the King’s wife, Queen Cersei Lannister or his advisors on King’s council?

            Last time I reviewed this I feel like it was a poorly written review, so I’m writing a better and thorough one to replace it.  Martin writes a story that keeps moving, but also has its quiet moments where characters are just talking and planning.    The scenes that highlight how corrupt this world is are at King’s Landing.  We see the failures of Robert as a king during the council meetings and are also introduced to the characters the reader should pay the most attention to, Lord Petyr Baelish (Littlefinger) and Varys.  They know more than the other characters and are unpredictable and manipulative.  They’re a prime example of how well Martin crafts complex characters that you have strong feelings for.  Both the male and female characters are compelling and strong.  Martin doesn’t stray away from vulgarity and gore as this world is cruel and war torn.  There are plenty of blood-filled scenes and unfortunately the female characters are treated horribly and disgustingly.  Women are raped, are whores, talked about in overly sexual terms and abused.  Despite this we do have strong minded female characters like Catelyn Stark, Cersei Lannister, and Daenerys Targaryen.  All three women have leadership roles and are more than sex objects, though Dany’s relationship with Khal Drogo leaves me with uncomfortable feelings.   Martin creates a vivid setting with descriptive details on how the world looks and its history, but the details add to the length of novel making it 674 pages not counting the appendices.  He writes from various perspectives allowing the reader to see all parts of the world and every important character’s feeling on what is going on in the story.  It also enlightens reader to what is going on to the different parts of the world through various characters POVs.

The writing was fantastic and im really liking the political stuff in this fantasy world. It was slow but the slowness had a purpose so it didn't feel like it was dragging. The characters varied from sweet and innocent, to not so sweet and innocent, to morally gray which I personally loved. I loved seeing how the characters handled situations and grew from it.

although I do wish that Daenerys was the one to kill her brother Viserys, and I hope that Sansa is able to get out of Jofferys claws.

a very strong start to an epic fantasy series. martin weaved multiple pov's, separate plotlines, and a staggering cast of characters with ease. his prose is descriptive without being overindulgent. his handling of the dothraki, and how so many women dies in childbirth is :/ his cishet white man shenanigans aside, i loved this book. even at several hundred pages (what the fuck george) heed all content warnings.
