I enjoyed reading this, however- I recognise that without watching the show I might not have liked it as much. The reasoning for this is, that a lot of the plot lines (/things that are being set up) aren’t given any relief until later on (much later) due to this, I think without knowing what was going to develop my view of this book would be lower. This is because a lot of the issues I may have (like the misogyny, trope based characters) I know get resolved/taken apart later. This allowed me to be patient with the book and just enjoy it.
I had a lot of fun just comparing the book to the show and figuring out what it is has been changed and why, it meant that at no point was I bored. Mainly because I was reading for the details. Caitlyn stark is much more interesting in the book
in the show her treatment of Jon isn’t too bad, it can come across as rudeness due to grief, a one off thing. Here though it is very clear she is abusive. One of my favourite scenes here was when Caitlyn was going up the vale with the Stone girl (who due to also being a ‘bastard’) reminded her of Jon and you can really see the complicated feeling there

The writing was solid throughout. At no point did the descriptions start to feel too long like in books like a little life.
All in all, solid read.

Didn't think I was going to enjoy it as much as I did. The writing is amazing and I really loved this book. The writing is incredible and it completely immerses you in the world of Westeros/Essos. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. My only problem is that at times I didn't enjoy the structure of so many charcter perspectives. I would be so immersed in the chapter/storyline and then the perspective would change and all that tension that was being built disappeared. I definitely have my favourite charcters and I found that when it was someone I didn't like as much, the chapters were more difficult to finish. However, I did like that the majority of the chapters were the same size (10-20 pgs.), it really helped me progress. There are also some strange time skips within the story, especially towards the end. While the characters often knew what was happening, I was lost for a while trying to figure out what has happened in the days/weeks/months that have passed (the time jumps are never really specified which I didn't like either). Overall, the story was incredible. If the plot hasn't (or has) been spoilt for you, it is worth the read.
