Another fun romp into the world of Gail Carriger, that is, a world of witty description, clever dialogue, fun and unique characters, and a nicely unfolding steampunk plot. After a slightly sub-par performance in book #2 [b:Changeless|6933876|Changeless (Parasol Protectorate, #2)|Gail Carriger|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1292566141s/6933876.jpg|7165488] (in my view) I was glad to see a return to form in this one. While I felt book #2 strayed away a bit too much from the overall plot and seemed to get distracted by an over reliance on the aforementioned wittiness, this one returned to a nice balance of plot, characters and action/intrigue.
At the heart of the plot is Alexia's quest to determine how she, a preternatural, could be pregnant at all since her husband is a supernatural being. Her quest takes her to France and to Florence, Italy where she plans to pose the problem to the mysterious Templars. Along the way we are treated to what is becoming one of the best group of supporting casts in all of fantasy fiction, a truly unique group. And, as usual, the novel is just downright fun to read.
Looking forward to book #4, [b:Heartless|8356487|Heartless (Parasol Protectorate, #4)|Gail Carriger|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1344267584s/8356487.jpg|13210545]

Frivolous, yet fun. I may forgive GC for Lord Maccon being such a jerk for the majority of this book, but not just yet.

Solid book but I wish Alexia and Connall weren't apart for pretty much the entire book.
Funny, smart, and containing just enough serious and gender moments to not make it a complete farce. This is one of the only Victorian books I enjoy reading.
