I listened to the author interviewed on @quick_book_reviews podcast and I was transported! He described the real life situation that led to the book idea (he also explains this at the end of the novel) and I was totally in the Outback rather than in English suburbia.

The book is very fast paced as things go from bad to worse for the Baxter family. They're on an island, no-one knows they are there and the family on the island have no care for the law. What follows is a very intense cat and mouse game and lots of heart in mouth moments for the reader. I read the book in a day!

Note there is a lot of violence in this book, and also animal deaths.

I guessed a couple of the twists, which was a bit of a shame, but it's still a brilliant and totally absorbing read.

My favourite quote:
"Children were fishing lines entangling you in their cruelties and wants and sticky fingers and dramas and disappointments."

A non-stop gripping thriller that leaves you holding your breath at every turn.

When Heather and Tom decide to take a sightseeing trip, their kids Olivia and Owen, persuade them to visit a private island where they are promised koala and kangaroo sightings.

When an accident leaves 1 dead, everyone ends up fighting for their lives. Even those that live on the island.
