This one took a but longer to complete. There are many historical details which slowed me down, but the addition of Irish and Roman history ended up helping the story. It is the story of how most magic left Ireland when the English invaded, and what happened to the principal characters. I especially enjoyed the Sighe and their magic. Worth your time.

Brilliant! This is a gorgeous epic tale based on Celtic mythology. Very dark at times, occasionally heartbreaking, but beautifully written. When, at then end it joined back up with the modern day part (which was only about 10 minutes in the beginning before the main story began) I was a little thrown for a minute, I had completely forgotten that part of the story. But I am pleased that it sets up a continuation of the story.

I tried with this book. I like the idea of it and I really loved the first few chapters but it go so slow really fast.

This book started out so well. Fairies and lore and Ireland. Sounds fantastic, right? But then it got bogged done in the legends and magic and drowned the original beauty of the story. I was fascinated by the particular legend about a ruler who manifested as two females and a spirit female. They were stronger together than apart and could manifest the spirit part when needed. It was something new and unfamiliar. But then it just lost me.
I tried so hard to keep going but it was just pulling me under.
I finally gave up at 75% through. I just couldn't read another word.
It had so much promise but in the end the detail and flashbacks were just too much.

DNF @ p.16

Childishly written, with interjections of information about the Celts that come across as lessons rather than natural components of the story. None of the dialogue feels natural.

#21. Meh. I enjoyed the first several chapters, but then I kind of just wished it was over so I could move on to something else. I get really bored with war-politics-plotting, and I think all the clan intrigue did it for me.

The storyline is all over the place and the male character already spent weeks on a boat fucking his slave who was greatful he didnt put her in the hold because she could read .
But it's okay because she had his slave killed by the guy they were sailing to go rescue.
And he took her siblings put of the slave offering to the mer people to be able to cross their waters.
So they're so totally even now, right?
Oh, and the casual flashback scene to a 15 year old being raped twice on her wedding night that was justified because her sister died so she needed to be useful somehow.
She was totally fine with it too because she was depressed.
This is why I don't read books written by men.

Couldn't finish this. The prose did not flow, and I found my mind wandering frequently. Not sure why this comes with such high reviews.
