“Eleanor," Daniel said. "Miss Fitt! Wake up!" I fluttered my eyelids open. "I'm not a misfit anymore," I rasped. "I thought I told you that.”
➽ I love Susan Dennard's books, so I had to read her very first series!! Something Strange and Deadly was published all the way back in 2012, but it still holds up today, as I had a lot of fun reading it. The story follows Eleanor Fitt in historical Philadelphia ... but with a twist. The country has been overrun by the Dead and only a small group calling itself the Spirit-Hunters are trying to do anything about it. When Eleanor's brother goes missing, they are her only help in order to find out what happened. I loved her adventurous spirit and care for her brother. Despite the dangers, she can't help but rest until she gets to the bottom of how her brother is connected to the uprising of the Dead. I found the Spirit Hunters interesting as well, they also dabble in Necromancy and are pretty much seen as an outsider!
➽ This was the perfect mix of adventure and romance! Back when this came out, I would have devoured this 😂 Still, I was engaged in Eleanor's mystery and liked seeing her growing feelings for Daniel, a talented inventor for the Spirit-Hunters. Both of them had some great banter and Eleanor was not deterred from their differences in status and the danger of their jobs! I can't wait to finish the rest of the series, though it's slightly out of print.
