Well played Kristin Miller, well played!!!

This novel was not quite what I was expecting, but I LOVED every second of it!!! So, I stayed up WAYYYYY too late last night reading it and was distracted all day at work thinking about finishing it this evening.

So, we have Colleen, our little lamb. Secretary to Michael. It's the age old story....only with a twist. Michael's pregnant wife disappeared only 6 months ago and Colleen finds herself in the same predicament when Michael asks her to move into his mansion.

I loved the multiple points of view from Colleen, to Michael, to Rachel the neighbor, to Detective Shaw. I loved all of the characters and all of their nasty bits!

I'm definitely adding Kristin Miller to my favorites list and I look forward to checking out the rest of her catalog.

A special thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for providing me with an ARC.

Maybe not exactly perfect but this was so readable and I LOVE “Rebecca” so maybe I am biased.

A dark and twisty thriller that left me guessing until the end! This was wholly atmospheric with a creepy setting. The characters were unlikable and I was confused to their ties. The writing was well done and set the tone for a creepy experience! The final big twist was well done and surprised me. Thank you to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

I am not typically a suspense reader, but I do love a good Rebecca reference. This read fast and easy. It was twisty enough to keep me turning the pages and didn't scare me into nightmares. It was a good, light mystery with a good plot turn at the end that I didn't have all the way figured out. It wouldn't be my first recommendation for true suspense readers, but is light enough for dabblers like me.

An interesting and different murder mystery. In spite of the spoilers in every chapter title this book still manages to have several unexpected twists and turns before we get to the very surprising end.

I really enjoyed and recommend this book.

Goodreads winner - I received this book in exchaqnge for an honest review. Thank you Random House!
Usually I am not the biggest fan of multiple points of view, but I found this story easy to follow. All of the characters had well defined personalities, making it wasy to distinguish who was speaking. The only thing I would tweak with the multi POV is to have each voice me a different chapter and not many within one. It could be broken into sections by day and have different chapters within the day.

Pros: Well defined characters
Interesting story
Atmosphere helped to set the scene with the gloomy fog
Great ending

Cons: Rubic cube portion didn't further the plot in any way, could easily be cut
Would have liked more background on Dean and Samara
Detective Shaw spent too much time reflecting on his wife

***I received an advanced e-copy from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review

Colleen Roper started out as a secretary for Michael, but after their affair began and she became pregnant she quit her job and he moved her to his opulent estate, Ravenwood. It is an immense house that is much more luxurious than anything Colleen has ever lived in, but there is one problem. It is filled with constant reminders of Michael's wife Joanna, who went missing before Colleen and Michael ever met and was never found. Then one day as someone is walking their dog in the grove across the street from Ravenwood, the dog unearths human remains...the human remains of Joanna, it turns out. Colleen becomes as invested in discovering the killer as the detectives are because she is worried she may be the next victim.
This book was so good. There were lots of plot twists and hidden agendas and secrets....all the things that make a great mystery. There was enough suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat and make me not want to put it down also. I highly recommend this one!

When I saw this being comped as a modern day [b:Rebecca|17899948|Rebecca|Daphne du Maurier|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1386605169l/17899948._SX50_.jpg|46663], one of my favorite classic gothic novels, I knew I had to get my grubby paws on [b:In Her Shadow|49919259|In Her Shadow|Kristin Miller|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1566292215l/49919259._SY75_.jpg|72574590]. As a lover of solving mysteries and digging deep into fictional characters' dirty laundry, this book was a wonderful fit with both of those hobbies. While pretty much every character in this story is unlikable, and mostly despicable, this couldn't take away from the fact that I truly didn't have some of the twists figured out, a refreshing experience for a jaded suspense reader. If you enjoy books that seem to blend classical storytelling with modern techniques, I highly recommend picking up a copy of this book when it releases next month.
