Reese is 18 years old and recently graduated. After her mother went to jail and her father passed away, she was raised by an ultra Christian grandparents (yes indoctrination). When her mother was released from prison, Reese moved to spend time with her. Upon arriving, she found out her mother was leaving to go to California for work training and she would be left with Fisher, their 28 year old landlord.
I really did not like Rese at first, I found her whiny and incredibly immature (I mean she was 18). Also, her hard core Christian values made her pretty unlikable (homophobia going on). As the book progressed and she began to realize that there was a whole other world outside of her resistricted Christian Church, she became more tolerable.
I wasn't shocked at all when Rory's big surprise was revealed, but hearing her side of the story made me like her so much.
II really wish that this whole book had been dual POV, I really enjoyed reading Fisher's perspective in the extended edition. I am really glad that the book ended the way it did. I am all for age gap romances, but 18 is very young and naive. You don't know who you are or what you want at 18.
Tropes: age gap, second chance
