This was a book I very much wanted to like. However, I felt it was a little too clever for itself. The characterization was weak and left the reader unable to really sympathize with the characters; I sincerely found myself not liking any of the adult characters at all.

I had the feeling the author set out to write a book about late-stage capitalism, and decided to make it artsy along the way. The story conceit about the selling and stealing of literal sleeping-at-night dreams is a little too nail-on-the-head for my tastes, but without the intrusion of the author's writing style, it could have made for a solid story if paired with more well-defined characters.

The writing style, however, kept pointing to itself and dancing on the pages, and while I think that stylistically, I can appreciate the skill and effort that went into this, in terms of actual engaging story, it fails on many levels.

The premise of this book is so solid, interesting, and perfect for this moment. It can be challenging for speculative fiction to successfully deliver on a sharp prescient premise. This novel does not stick the landing, but the writing is so imaginative, disturbing, and funny that you’ll let it slide. The book will make you feel emphatic for the moment humanity is in as a slave to late stage capitalism, but you will not leave with hope or a path forward. Will follow this authors career with much interest

This was not for me. I don't vibe well with the stories that are told in a voice that sounds like an alien species is trying to pass themselves off as human and thinks they are wildly succeeding when, really, as a human you read this and it's...odd. Like someone came into your house and moved the sofa an inch to the left and thought no one would notice.

None of the characters were compelling to me, and I struggled having Abernathy as our MC.
