This book proved that you really don’t need constant, over-the-top love declarations for a book to be insanely romantic!

Khai is autistic, and because he has never processed emotions the same way as other people do, he has convinced himself he has a heart of stone and can’t feel anything at all, but nothing could be further from the truth. He actually experiences things very deeply, and is capable of extending a tremendous amount of care. I mean, even though it isn’t until the end of the book that he is finally able to recognize he has loved Esme this entire time, it was already so obvious through his subconscious actions and thoughts towards her. It was such a touchingly sweet and gentle story, and I loved it from start to finish.

I also thought it was a very nice detail that Esme never really learned what autism was, and never saw Khai as different in any way. She fell for him exactly the way he was, and she didn’t need any excuses or explanations. It was honestly adorable; Khai’s broody cluelessness and Esme’s bubbly naivety truly made for the cutest couple.

She is the definition of "oh, honey" and he is horny. Yes he has autism but the way he describes her and thinks about her gave me a huuge ick and it wasn't because of the autism, it was because of the "i am man, she is woman , man is horny, oh what to, let's constantly leave her but be very horny" thoughts of his. I was officially over it when he kept talking about "her womanly SMELL". No, not her perfume. And i get the whole "i love my partner's natural scent", i have it too with my boyfriend, but my man kept talking about it like an animal hunting a pray idk. Big ick.
And she kept on forgiving him and falling in love with him. But i forgave her because she is a badass who finished highschool and graduated college, you go little queen!

This was just kind of meh

I needed to add to this review because the more I thought about this book the more annoyed I felt about it.
I know the author is autistic herself, but it was difficult for me to believe that Kai wouldn’t know he was in love.
Also, while I love a good happy ending, this one got wrapped up a little too neatly.

A more original take on the contemporary romance genre for sure. It was an interesting and entertaining read, but I wasn’t totally sold by the romance and found the ending to be rather rushed and a bit cliche.
