I am not typically a King fan (just personal preference) but WOW. Just wow. This was a PHENOMENAL story. Had me on the edge of my seat til the last page.

What a book! Each time I thought I would get bored of the extra detail, I ended up unable to stop reading. I know Stephen king is one of the greats so I really shouldn’t be surprised, but I’m always pleased when a book is equal parts character, plot, and setting. Beautifully written and I think this one will stay with me for a while.

I truly enjoyed this book. This was my first Stephen King book and I loved it. I admire how King writes and how he describes his characters/events etc. I grew to love the characters in this book, especially Billy and Alice. This was one of those books where you feel like you are the main character going through all the events of the book. My ONLY critique is that, in my opinion, I felt that the beginning was a little slow.  I was a little skeptical that I would get bored with the parts of the book that was “Billy’s book” but I liked it and I liked how King incorporated Billy’s past as it showed how he became the way he was. I would totally reread this and I recommend it to everyone.

Billy Summers is a killer for hire. He is good at his job but will only do the job if the person is truly bad. However, after this particular job, he must disappear because it's his last one.
I wasn't impressed with this Stephen King novel. It didn't really feel like SK. This book took way too long to get to the point. More than half the book drags on and on and on. The long chapters don't help at all. I found myself so bored the last 50% of the book. There's like 4 different stories happening at once, so many unnecessary characters, some of the book is about an unlikely pair, some is about a hit man (Billy) who only kills bad guys, and a young girl left for dead, and a book being written.
However, I liked the unlikely pairing between Billy Summer and Alice. If you hang on long enough, you'll meet her. Together, they emerge as fascinating figures, but the book is really about Alice being found because of Billy Summers! Alice's story mirrors Billy's, and it adds this sense of humanity, which was refreshing for a king's novel. I loved the first half of the book, but I just didn't love the last half. This is unfortunate because Stephen King is a great author. Would I read again? Nope, but it was a book club pick, and it kept me entertained for the most part.
