I would give this zero stars if I could. The casual and relentless racism and cultural digs are probably elements of the time it was published but sweet mercy it felt so unnecessary. The constant getting into scrapes and magically getting out again got so old so fast. Supposedly this book was several short stories put together which would make sense because it felt very disjointed.

Very disappointed in this one and will not read again. The only reason this wasn’t DNF is because it was relatively short and I could listen at 1.5x speed.

I know people hate this book but if you take it for what it is (Christie finding a way to connect 12 short stories together) it’s a goofy fun book. Just don’t expect anything serious and you’ll have a decent time.

Our dear little detective Hercule Poirot is put thru the ringer in this mashed together novel of racist, repetitive, superspy bullshit. The mysteries are not interesting, the plot twists are both outlandish and easily spotted. Agatha Christie herself described it as "that rotten book." In a better world this novel would have been unpublished; in this world, the best you can do is pretend it doesn't exist and read a better Poirot mystery.
