I normally find Agatha Christie to be a riveting read but this was pretty boring. It lacks the unity of plot of a proper novel. It is a series of episodes, only unified by the theme of Hercule Poirot investigating and uncovering the identity of one of the villains. Most Christie fans and scholars agree that The Big Four isn't her best. Kuddos to the Queen of Mystery for trying a different story out but this one was utterly a bore.

mysterious slow-paced

This book gave me the same feeling as the Abbott & Costello movie “hold that ghost” - just silliness with a so-called mystery in the background. However, “hold that ghost” was infinitely better.

Not as exciting as some of Agatha Christie's other novels, but still a good mystery with more political intrigue.

This is one doozy of a weird book that reads like Christie writing Poirot fanfic, jerking him out of the genteel English parlors of his comfort zone to make him jump off of trains and don disguises in search of a quartet of international supervillains bent on world domination and chaos for... reasons? I lost count of how many times Hastings passed out, only to awake safely after the action concluded to hear how Poirot narrowly thwarted doom yet again, and I cringed every time a caricature of a Chinese person appeared on page to speak in offensive dialect. Not Christie's finest moment.
