Ms. Christie was either on a deadline to get a book out, or she was having a really bad day.
Very very disappointing book.

"Hercule Poirot might now be crushed out of existence - a terrible calamity for the world. And you too, mon ami - though that wouldn't be such a national catastrophe."
"Poirot has his virtues, but modesty is not one of them."

This is an incredibly odd Poirot book, entirely lacking in the charm and fun of a classic murder mystery it is instead an odd adventure story pitching Poirot and Hastings against a team of four seemingly random supervillains (who themselves lack motive and personality). It also has quite a few uncomfortable turns of phrase about 'chinamen' that I would have very happily never read.
The only redeeming aspect of the story for me, and why it gets more than one star, was because I could the character of Number Four a little intriguing, and found myself considering each new character introduction as another potential alias. But anyway, if you're looking for a Poirot book to read this would not be my first recommendation.

Excellent Agatha Christie novel. I was gripped! It was a bit unlike some of her other novels, with multiple murders and mysterious interwoven into one larger mystery.
If I hadn’t read Sherlock Holmes and his combat against Moriarty, I would have given this 5 stars. This book does closely resemble “The Final Problem.”
