This is my first Star Wars comic book. In fact, last year was the first year I ever watched the Star Wars movies. The prequels quickly became my favorites, and Anakin my favorite character. So I was lucky to pick this up from my friend's excessive collection.

Having fallen in love with Vader, this volume has all the fan service I wanted. I gasped audibly at the scenes between him and Dr. Aphra. Goodness. The chemistry is tense, and it hints towards a future romance, though possibly one-sided. It leaves you wanting more.

Dr. Aphra is a great new character. Smart, witty and not overly sexualized. It's refreshing to see someone work for Anakin with a rebellious streak, a bit of anarchism in her blood, and not overtly evil. Nuance.

Vader's development as a character serves as a humanization that isn't much present after the prequels. His insecurity, his youthfulness along his maturity. Brilliant. The drawings truly captures it as well.

I will definitely pick up Vol. 2.
