Another installment of the cozy mystery of Lydia Fox.

Characters that I felt were honest and decent are turning up crocked. Can't wait for the next one.

This is a great detective urban fantasy story set in England. I really like our main character and how she’s drawn back into the orbit of her magical family despite her best efforts to steer clear.

I like the ghost man living in her home and I like her cop on again off-again boyfriend. Heck, I’m ok with the Uncle (he’s a complex character who’s fun to get a beat on) and I like the Fox dude once we meet him.

The larger plot and family lore is enough to hook readers but not so much that it takes away from each book’s individual mystery.

The series balances a fun, pulp-y vibe with some darker elements.

Hmm, I have to say this was spotty at best and the story progressed poorly. What has bothered me about these books is that there was a great set up during the beginning and then a rush of information at the end that doesn’t quite live up to the previous build up. In other words, the denouement was boring followed by an abrupt end that I guess is supposed to wet your appetite for more but just left me saying “huh?” Don’t think I will be reading anymore. The characters outside of Lydia and Jason (Fleet is snooze-worthy) are not all that interesting and the mysteries lackluster at best.

Not quite as good as the previous installments but still an enjoyable read.

Very good. More layers of Family history and how they interact, secrets and such. So curious of what Fleet is exactly.

I can’t tell if the author’s semi-abrupt prose style is getting better or if I’m just getting used to it, but I quite enjoyed this entry in the series. I’m also excited to see where it goes because this felt like a bit of a turning point.

Also the economical exposition is especially great as I tend to hate big exhaustive catch ups of the previous books I’ve already read in a series so I’m loving that this has very little of that.
