Read the whole 16 book series. So so different to the TV show and I think I preferred it that way? I enjoyed Alison having a twin I think this should of been kept in the show. Also the books of her diaries and hidden secrets were amazing. My mum bought me the whole series when I was like 13 ❤️
I was looking for something frivolous to read after Unbroken, which this is. However, it's really annoying when a book ends with not much resolution, as this one does. I didn't realize before I started this how many books there are in the series. I'm not dedicated enough to the plot or characters to keep reading. In fairness, though, I am not this book's intended audience.

I thought that this was a good story but it is so poorly written that I just could not read it. I like the show much better.
I got the e-book version of this book since it was free and I had heard of the TV series so I was curious to see what it was about. It was probably one of the most annoying books I have read. I am not the intended audience but I do like young adult books. The stories have to have some meaning/message and a point. I didn't see a point or message to this book. The characters were really flat and self centered. I hope typical teens are not like the girls in this story. Also since the characters were not well developed I kept on mixing up who was who. I was hoping to find out who the mysterious A was but it became apparent part way through the book that was not going happen and I'm not going to read thru the other 11 or so books in the series to find out. It was nice to find out a little bit about what happened to Ali. I don't think the TV series is still on but I am thinking this might be one case in which I would prefer the movie/TV show over the book. I probably would have been amused by the TV show but as a book I just found it annoying.
I loved this book! Its like the series but not the same though, I liked how it started with Alison still being alive and hipnotize them. It gives A LOT of details and I just loved it.
The first time I read this book was right before the tv show premiered and I was instantly hooked. After getting surgery in June, I decided to read the series again while laying on the couch, knocked up on painkillers, and I definitely do not like it as much as I did the first time. Two reasons why; I was in middle school so I have not yet read more complex series and now in comparison, PLL doesnt shine. Also, I already know what is going to happen, so the suspense is gone. I definitely still think the series is really fun though!
When I asked one of the many 7th grade girls at my school who is reading this series why they all liked the books so much, she said in a whisper, "Well, they are kind of inappropriate."
Enough to peak my interest!
Desperate Housewives, meet Gossip Girl. Four girls who have drifted apart are reunited by ugly secrets from their past. The summer before 8th grade, Ali disappeared. Now that Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily are in 11th grade and dealing with a whole new set of secrets to cover up, they begin receiving texts, notes and emails from "A." "A" knows all about their deepest, dirtiest secrets. Who is "A", and who will she tell?
Can the girls keep their new secrets secret? Is Ali dead or alive? What about their past will come back and ruin the lives they have built for themselves?
Appeals: riddled with mystery and high school naughtiness. Teacher fantasies, stealing boyfriends, kissing girls, drinking and smoking and who knows what else. Some steamy scenes, but in this first book, nothing that makes it R-rated (at least for what is explicitly described). Strong characters, each chapter alternates focus. Delightful plot unwinding.
