I was very surprised at how different the book was to the television series when it comes to the characters (from looks, to backgrounds, to motives, to parents), but I was still able to enjoy it. Will certainly be reading further books in the series.

Icons in the making

Well, this is a series I wish I had read before I watched the show, I might have enjoyed it more.

Moment that stood out most, Aria biting Ezra's hand during an argument after he read A's text message... WHO DOES THAT?

I read this book because my daughter and I watch (& love) the TV series on ABC Family. This is one of the few cases when the show is better than the book - the TV show does a great job of keeping things dramatic and suspenseful. Perhaps I didn't get as much out of the book because I had already seen the first season of the show, so I knew some of the "secrets" shared in this volume of the series.

I did like some of the character development that just can't be communicated on screen - some of the background on each of the girls' characters, and how they viewed certain situations. I also liked that each chapter was told from a different girl's perspective, so you got a taste of each character's thoughts, while still moving the overall plot along.

It's been a while since we watched season 1 of the show, but I believe the show stayed pretty true to the book, which is refreshing - quite different from the case of the Sookie Stackhouse books and HBO's "True Blood" (though I {heart} both the books, and the show!).

I intend to keep reading the Pretty Little Liars series - hopefully I'll get caught up, and read "ahead" - then I can judge more accurately how well the suspense keeps me hooked.

Do I love this only because I love the show? It’s quite possible lol

I started reading these books on set - we have a library set with books that I actually want to read - and they're fun, and a little silly with definitely entertaining. I also watch the show - it follows the books loosely enough that I don't feel like I'm ruing the show by reading them.

imma be honest the show was better but aside from that it's pretty much true to the show. at least the first book and season. just dragged on a bit tho and the monologues were slightly annoying.

Wow. These girls really have some explaining to do. I really like the start to this series - I remember it's something that I had started getting in to during high school, but never really caught up. The drama of everything I think is a little much, especially to think of the things that these 7th graders (at the time) got away with, but for a quick and dramatic story with twists and turns and a sense of mystery, this is really where it's at. For me, I'd rank it closer to a 3.5 for pure entertainment value, but alas, no ranking system is perfect.
