Oh my god, how can something be so sweet and fluffy and wonderful?

This little short novela was so funny and charming and amazing and a perfect little ending to the whole series. I enjoyed every second of it.

Obviously I had to read this again after finishing the trilogy. It almost made me weep. It’s one of the softest things I’ve ever read in my whole life. Absolutely decimating. “Come and meet her.” brought me to my knees. "You were watching the road."

*

Laurent’s cheeks were slightly flushed, though it was not clear whether it was from summer heat or his admission.

“Hello,” said Laurent, and Damen couldn’t help the spill of feeling at how close they had come to not having this at all.

Damen lifted his head and kissed Laurent tenderly, found him flushed, warm like summer.

Laurent had a mind that took in problems, faced them, quantified them, and then, steadily, solved them: Keep Damianos alive; cement Damianos’s rule; don’t appear to be ruling in his stead.

Damen was smiling; there was delight in seeing Laurent explore himself, a young man who was sweet, teasing, at times unexpectedly earnest. Having made the decision to let Damen in, Laurent had not gone back on it. When the walls went up, it was with Damen inside them.

“I thought, I have lost everything, and gained you, and I would almost make the trade, if I didn’t know it had happened that way for you, too.”

Laurent was like the edge of the blade, but sometimes he was like this.

Laurent, enjoying the sunlight too, and the air from the sea, that winked in an expanse of blue. Laurent’s eyes opened.
Laurent said, “I like it here. I like it here so much.”

“All right,” said Damen, smiling as he thought about his squires rooting around in the east garden for his armor. And then of other things. His smile widened.
Laurent said, “What?”
“You were watching the road,” said Damen.

A 4.75 Series.

This is the first time in a very long time that a series consumed me so much that I read it straight through.

I am mad at myself too because I had the first book for almost 2 years and kept putting off reading it because it was supposed to be controversial and I wasn't sure what to expect going in. Well, if I am being honest, the controversy in this book doesn't even make my top 5 of raunchy, fucked up reading. I get the issue that had everyone upset because it was truly sick, however, kudos to C.S. Pacat for not going into graphic details concerning that issue.

Now, Damen and Laurent came into my world and stole my heart. From the very beginning, I was drawn to Laurent, I wasn't sure why until I started to piece together the situation with his uncle and then I understood because unfortunately that is a situation that I can personally relate to.

This story was truly the definition of enemies to lovers, and I loved every minute of it. This trilogy was exceptional and for all my M/M lovers who have not read this, I would highly recommend it.

The transformation of these characters from book 1 to this side story, post book 3. The tenderness. The understanding. The adoration. I'm here for it.

This was cute! A much deserved restful time for Damen and Laurent. It was a simple story of intimacy and love, I'm happy we got to have an epilogue for what was a very abrupt ending of Kings Rising.
Seeing Laurent's development from the first book, heck even from the first half of Kings Rising to this, is such a wonderful thing. He's finally at peace and learning to love and be loved.

I do wish we could have seen some hints of what's going to happen in the future plot and worldbuilding-wise. This short story only centers on Damen and Laurent's relationship and love.
