Team Beast

This was a great take on Beauty and the Beast. I felt so bad for Hunter, he thinks secluding himself is what’s best for the rest of the world because he has scars everywhere and thinks himself to be hideous. Gretchen can see beneath his insecurities and scars to find a kind and loving man. It was sweet.

I LOVE modern fairy tales. Even better when they are retellings of Beauty and the Beast. Overall I liked the book. This is my first read by this author. I was interested in the story line the entire time but I wasn't enthralled. I read it in one sitting and will most likely read other books by this author if they become available through my local library (support your library PLUS save your money!)

I loved the hero. Hunter is scarred, broken, and completely socially unaware. It's amazing. I didn't fall in love with the heroine (I hardly ever do). I found her a little much but maybe that is what Hunter needed to break out of his super thick shell. There are secondary characters but they are only in the book enough for the reader to become interested in their story. The bulk of the novel is about Hunter and Gwen's blossoming relationship.

In the end, it's a good retelling of Beauty & the Beast.

I'm not really sure how I feel about this, Hunter is really sweet towards Gretchen at points but he's also hugely manipulative and keeps lashing out at her due to his own problems. I also struggle to believe that everyone else is that bad, I can understand people staring or being surprised but most people try not to look at other people like they're sideshow exhibits, I know that he feels conspicuous but we're told people actually stagger backwards at the sight of him, it just feels quite a dramatic reaction to someone unfortunate to have scarring.

this was such an improvement from Logan and Bronte's story. ummm wow. big step up.

scars, broody, billionaire, and a virgin? erotic beauty and the beast retelling? sign me up

yes. you heard that right. a virgin male love interest. to say i enjoyed that little tidbit would be an understatement. those scenes with Gretchen were very... wow. can we also talk about how real Gretchen feels? cause that was a treat.

the things i did not like were similar to the first installment. i did not appreciate the constant lying and throwing money around to make things better. nor did i like the "it's all about the money" trope. i think its a bit overdone. i also could not stand the butler whatsoever and it distracted me to no end

I have read this book before and really enjoyed it, though I didn't enjoy it quite as much the second time it's still a solid 4 star read for me. If you don't like romances that have misunderstandings and misinterpretations this book is not for you though. If you don't mind that trope in books and enjoy a nice shy boy/ confident girl romance this could be the book for you. Hunter is sweet but shy to the point of frustration at times, he has gotten so used to people reacting badly to his scars that he always assumes the worst of people. Gretchen thankfully is about as subtle as a sledgehammer and breaks through all his walls whether he likes it or not. This book has a little spice but not too much, definitely not a closed door romance though.

This was a re read for me. It follows the beauty and the beast storyline pretty closely. I gave it 5 stars the first time because I liked Hunter. Talk, dark, quiet, and mysterious I suppose. This time around I wanted to get to know him a bit better. It feels like all you ever get to know is that he is extremely self conscious about his scars. It’s still a good steamy read but I wanted more from the characters.

Beauty and the beast, phantom of the opera are the inspiration of this book. And I also detect an Archer's Voice by Mia Sheridan is an inspiration.

The author is very good at making this book fun and yet heart warming. And Hunter... oh Hunter. He is a GOD. Romantic book usually have a broken damage hero that needs to be saving. And Jessica delivers that. Plus the sweet cute sweet banter between Hunter and Gretchen. I love Gretchen. She is so kicking ass. She is witty flirty and yet sweet.

I kind of hoping the butler have a stand alone book. He is a show stealer.

I was BLUSHING! I found this so erotic I sat in the lounge room blushing and hoping no one would realise why. Now I'm a redhead, my skins so pale it's basically translucent so I blush easily, but not many books actually make me blush. But for about 15-20% of this book I was blushing.

Three things I love that sum up this book. Beauty & the Beast retelling, scarred hero who's a recluse and a dick, and of course, VIRGIN HERO. I actually love any book where a guy can still be an alpha type male, dominating his girl, but actually fucking blushes. It's like writers are scared that's not manly enough! I have actually never seen a guy blush in adult fiction. I've seen it a couple of times in some YA type stories, or they weren't exactly alpha type males, and it's a shame. I loved it!

So well written, characters are all loveable, and it's never like an episode of young and the restless or something. I think everything could happen, and reactions were all realistic, and I loved this even more than book one and I loved that one. So eager to read book 3, but I will be putting it off for a bit to read some other things, but I'll be definitely reading books 3&4 before the end of the year, and probably the rest of the series if I get time, and after that the spin off and everything else by this author and all her other names hehe
