Just too toshy and takes itself too seriously. Also, yes, not set in anything remotely resembling a historical perido, but the crap history still annoyed me given it's billed as vaguely regency inspired.

When people said "A Fragile Enchantment" was magical Bridgerton, THIS book is actually what I wanted. It was great. It was messy, full of people making selfish decisions only to hurt everyone and then find a way back. And it felt REAL. No one makes good choices 100% of the time, but what these characters do with those choices is the heart of all of this.

More than a love  story or a fantasy magical story, it's an amazing story of friendship.

I really enjoyed this book. It had the flavor of a Jane Austen chase with all of the froth and bubble, with the added mystery and chase of a good fantasy novel. I particularly enjoyed the allegory throughout regarding reproductive rights. It had something to say and said it well without making me feel like it was beating me over the head with it. The main characters felt real, their choices made sense- even if at times frustrating and it was a good distracting romp which was exactly what I wanted from the book.

My only complaint is that I have finished it and no idea whether there will be a sequel.
