This is one of the best of the "independant" agatha christie books, i think.
Interesting cast of characters too.
The character work here is remarkable.
Of note, i *really* like Philip, hilarious guy, i love him.
Never really felt sad when a christie character died or something, but man, with philip it's like, damn
The situation is unique, as usual.
At first, i really did think this Rachel Argyle was this good, wholesome, un-impeachable (roughly) woman, and then the slow reveal that she's actually this domineering, oppressive lady was really interesting; her delusional beliefs really came to a head, as far as i'm concerned when Leo started to reminisce about the past of micky's history and how she denied him his biological mother's love.
She seems the type of person that isn't wrong, just ... blegh
The final reveal was wholly unexpected, I didn't ..
Anyways, a new favorite for sure.
Still processing how I feel about this novel. It was full of ups and (primarily) downs.
Definitivamente os personagens mais detestáveis que a AC já escreveu!
medium-paced
Absolutely cracking set up and an interesting cast of characters, but after they the story didn't particularly grab me. The narrative voice wasn't particularly strong or distinct, and the perceptions of the characters remained fairly shallow. There is also a lot of weirdness expressed by absolutely everyone about adoption and motherhood, which feels like absolute peak Christie Being Weird About Stuff. But I do really like the premise of this one.
