Number 8 in a series of historical mysteries. The plotting is very clever and it is fun to see the relationships between Frances and her family grown. I also love the relationship between George and Frances. The romantic in me wants more romance, but it is all off the page

This series is an easy listen without sacrificing a smart mystery.  I tend to listen to this cozy mystery series between reads of other books and have not problem popping right back into the story even if I've left if for a couple of days.

Frances and her husband, George, are still in Paris and back into a murder investigation when asked by a "friend" iykyk, Alicia Stoke-Whitney, to find out why a potential suitors mother thinks her daughter isn't good enough.  So begins a twisty mystery with blackmail and murder.

The mystery was the best part of this installment, imo.  There was a whole plot line of filler with a postpartum Lily, soooo boring.  The thing about the baby nurse?  Didn't really feel accurate to the period.

Really enjoyed the women that Ms Freeman wrote in this installment and how they managed their life circumstances.  Ms Freeman weaves a subtle social commentary into her writing that works for this lighter type read.

I like Francis.  I can tolerate George.  But this is the cheesiest romance of any book I've read in 2 decades.  I literally cringe when they call each other "Darling"... UGH.  I don't know what it is but I wish they had never married.  Single Francis was way more fun.

I feel like this plot was rushed compared to the other books in the series.
