The prose is superb. Its spoiled me for other works. I try not to hold it against others but it's clear there is talent and skill in display here.
The amount of detail in description is amazing to me. it's not excessive or purple, but how remarks on local plant life and their coloring, the use of specific stones in architecture, and so on provides such life to the world setting. I'm really obsessed, I must read the rest of their work right now asap.

This book gave me new mental illnesses and I'm enjoying the new marbles to roll around my brain ๐Ÿ’•

This book was much better than the first in this series. There was way more character development in conjunction with an interesting plot. My initial critique still stands though- I wish this didnโ€™t feel so rushed. There were parts of the book that felt glossed over, when I wish they would have dived into more detail.

The ending was also very open ended which is totally fine if there is going to be a third book, otherwise is feels a bit unfinished.

A MUCH stronger book than its predecessor, Winterglass. Mirrorstrike is character-driven with a purposeful plot composed of multiple moving parts. Sriduangkaew plays more carefully and with greater intent with perspective and motivation, adding fresher layers of ambiguity to the story. The world is more fully realized and, here, the romance is more compelling and built around the characters versus the sort of 'fate' call of the mirror shards as in the first book.

I was however disappointed that Sriduangkaew continues to pull back from real condemnation of empire, and I was further disappointed with the last chapter, which glosses over events that ought to have been explored with greater depth. The ending is indecisive and IMO left open in a way that begs a third novella - is one forthcoming? IDK.

Note: I was given an advance copy by the publisher.

Sriduangkaew gets to the point. There is no endless verbose world building. She simply thrusts her reader into the story and trusts them to keep up and I appreciate that. That doesn't mean her prose is sparse - she knows how to turn a phrase. But it's not flowery. The story is interesting, the sex scenes were super hot, and the ending was truely unexpected.

Cons: you will need to read Winterglass in order to understand and be invested in this story. Also, I found myself wishing the book were just a little bit longer - it feels unfinished in parts.
