A tense, quick thriller that will have you frustrated and engaged from page one. I loved that it was told in short vignettes; it kept the pacing up as well as gave you nuggets of information one at a time. I was frustrated by the characters, but it also all made sense. Definitely a must read!

Korede's sister (MC) Ayoola's view of life is that her beauty and ability to deceive should grant her everything she wants, no mater the cost to the others. Korede has been made to look after her in a servitude-kind of manner even if she has to compromise her own well being: this is the opinion of their mother, and Korede has internalized it so completely she is willing to
give up her crush and
hide the evidence of multiple murders for her sister.

Both the sisters don't seem too well mentally, but no outsider seems to pay attention to it
before it's too late
. The book is set in a strict patriarchal culture that I'm not very familiar with, combined with a hard drive towards settling in a marriage (and women maybe having worth only as a wife even if they had succesfull careers), but even in that frame I think Ayoola and Korede's mindsets are extreme.

So many characters in this book annoyed me. Points to Braithwaite for creating such full characters that are able to invoke such annoyance in me haha A page-turner, to say the least! And that ending 🙊🙈

I really liked this book. I think the premise was interesting and the development of the story was cool. My issues stems from characters. Neither sister is particularly likable and neither is anyone else in this story. Pretty much everyone is a villain in my eyes. The doctor leads the main character on, the sister manipulates everyone, the mom coddles the younger sister, all of the coworkers seem either lazy or rude, the dad needs no explanation, and the main character can't decide whether to defend her sister or tell on her. I think this is another case of a book benefiting from some more content. It's still a good book just not the best.

While no one in the story was particularly loveable, I found myself absolutely curious as to what would happen to them next. The interweaving of past and present was well executed.
