Tied up some lost ends of the first book (which was fantastic). This book was still very confusing, which I loved about the first one, but this novel felt very dreary and slow to me. Too much focus was put onto new characters instead of the old, and I was often left wondering what any of it had to do with the first book, and what happened to my Casey??? It still was very satisfying, and I really liked the ending. Just my two cents.

I tried - I really, really tried. This was so confusing: multiple POVs and multiple eras and multiple Londons led to a confusing plot and a DNF.

so i definitely never read this book before.
oh, boy.
i feel like this sequel made the first book much, much better in retrospect, which i’m not sure is entire a good thing. i’m still not sure if i hated these books or loved them. they’re just so fucking meta with all the book world stuff, and all the existential crises really Got to me, and there was a lot of like unnecessary shit, upon first read. man. and i’m still not sure i actually understood what was going on. but, damn. that final reveal scene where everyone and their mother is there...that was pretty wild. i think it could’ve been wrapped up a lot quicker, but it def reminded me of some of the writing and plot reveals in gt9 and ht9 which like, high praise. i do think white space isn’t as strong as a first book; it’s like the two books are one really long story, but without a defined midpoint. then again, i think the end of the first book leaves a very tantalizing cliffhanger. hard to say, hard to say. it was definitely a genius idea and incredibly interesting meta meta stuff, but.....the execution could’ve been cleaner, perhaps? gah. i don’t know. i’ll probably be having nightmares about this for days. that’s one thing that bick does real well, is the horror. that was really nicely done. i guess one nitpick i have was doyle? like....why? he wasn’t necessary to the story at all...tho i guess that’s his function. meta upon meta. idk if i hated that or loved it, because i hated him so much. out of everyone, he made the least sense. but the ending was wonderful, at least. a nice fulfilling happy cleanser ending. lots and lots of meta there again, which was mind boggling. i guess i liked it. i think i did. interesting stuff.

so I more or less feel satisfied with the ending since it gave a resolution as best as it could when one is dealing with the wibbly wobbly mess of time, space, varying continuums. Three stars as it could have probably been wrapped up a bit quicker. But I enjoyed the read.

This book was confusing and fascinating and weird, but it was something I couldn't stop reading. I'm still not sure I understood everything, but I felt like I just had to know, even if it didn't make sense.
