Crystal Maldonado, you genius!
The Fall of Whit Rivera is a pumpkin spice latte in a book, and that's what's brilliant about it. There is sweetness and warmth, but dig a little more and you get the depth of the book, the disability rep, the Latinx rep (the AfroLatinx rep!!!), the emotional heart of the story. I so so so enjoyed it.
If you're gonna do YA disability rep, do it like this! Do it from an OwnVoices perspective and include the emotional part, the part where you're figuring it out AND let your disabled characters have happy endings. I cannot say enough how much I loved this book and how I'm looking forward to reading much much more from Crystal.

This book is a sweet and cheesy autumnal romance with a focus on BIPOC, queer, and body positive representation. I keep waiting to love another Maldonado book as much as I did her first. This wasn’t quite it. It’s cute, but that’s kind of it.

This book is so heavy but also so cozy. Whit is dealing with PCOS, starting school, and going through a breakup. She reconnects with Zay and starts to show him all the things she loves about fall while they're planning the fall dance and festival at school. I love that as she trusts her friends more and is more hands off with her sister, the things in her life come together and everyone supports her.

Really fun sweet YA romcom. I wish I had realized that "Fall" literally meant (in some ways) autumn - I do sort of wish I had waited to read this the season but it was still delightful.

A sweet story of love, friendship, embracing who you are, and trusting your friends and family will love you for it, whether that’s your sexual orientation, size, or chronic illness. I loved getting to know Whit, especially seeing her perspective as someone with PCOS and the struggles and uncertainty that go with it. I understand why Whit pulled back from her friends while dealing with the constant doctors‘ appointments, weight gain, and other pain and side effects, but I was so glad when she finally told them the truth, and their reactions were perfect. We should all be so lucky to have such friends in our lives.
