The edition I read had beautiful illustrations in it that I think helped me feel enmeshed in the text.

There is a bit of story at the beginning and end, but it otherwise is a philosophy or life advice book broken into many small pieces. I agree with other reviewers who've mentioned that the book description makes it seem like it will be a story with lessons woven in, which is not the case. I didn't mind, but others might.

I enjoyed reading through the suggestions on living life, and found the guidance to be good reminders for living well, based on my own personal philosophy. However, some of the guidance requires you to glean the intent of the message rather than lean on the metaphor itself. For instance, on page 79 of my edition,
it says "Just as the archer justifies the existence of the target, so the arrow justifies the existence of the bow: you can throw an arrow with your hand, but a bow without an arrow is no use at all." Practically speaking, I can shoot something arrow-like from a bow instead of an arrow, or use the bow to smack someone (if my aim is violence), or throw the bow like a spear, to similar effectiveness as throwing an arrow with my hand, so the author's statement is dubious. So I have to do a little mental gymnastics to interpret something from this
.

I also know nothing about archery, so I'm not sure if a practiced archer would find holes in the story or in the corollaries between living a good life and practicing archery as described in the book. But it all seems plausible enough to me as a layperson.

similar to art of war...

This was a quick audiobook that just felt hollow - like Coelho was trying to put some pop-philosophy in. Might just have been my frame of mind, but I just couldn't get into it in any depth.

* didn't know what i expected but definitely expected more
* felt a bit like i was going through inspirational quotes on tumblr
* i love simplicity but it was a bit too simple
* tbh i only bought it bc of the gorgeous illustrations
* enjoyed the last pages the most!
