There were some good parts but overall this book dragged on. Even when the writing was on the wall Hepworth wrote 4-5 more unnecessary chapters. There was a scene toward the end that was a little too wrapped up in a neat little bow for me and while I'm not sure about Australian law it was just not believable.
Was a bit flimsy. But I am sure people will appreciate the research put in for those who have problems with sensory processing. But even then at times, Fern was annoying.

THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!!!
Spoiler
Rose was a master manipulator! She was lying about everything! I hollered when the truths started coming out. Oooh wee. She definitely had me fooled. I found myself getting annoyed with Fern for not standing up for herself but Rose had been her person for so long. I’m so glad Wally came into the picture and was the voice of reason. All this time I thought they had a horrible mother just for it to be a lie. Rose was something else! Kudos to the author for writing neurodivergent characters with grace and dignity.

I really enjoyed this story. It's less mystery than family drama but it was interesting to me and kept my attention the whole time.
