Quick read, easily digestible and the characters were likable. Deducted stars because there wasn’t a lot of continuity with Fern. I felt like the author did a lot so the story would fit and it ended up a bit messy and unbelievable. Still a good read.

WOW - much better than I expected! Twin sisters, Rose and Fern, had a rough childhood with a not so great mother. At 28 years old, they now live independent lives, although Fern (who has autism) still relies on Rose almost every day. That is, until Fern starts to branch out, and that doesn't make Rose happy.

I kept thinking I knew what was gonna happen - and kept being proved wrong! Really loved this - so many twists and turns!

I think I would've been more "wowed" by this if I hadn't recently read "Darling Girls."

This is definitely worth the read, but not quite as good as the other

Really enjoyed it, read it in two sittings. The twists aren't too hard to see coming but the writing is good and the characters easy to love. Also, quite funny in places.

This is categorized as a thriller but I think it’s actually more of a family drama with a twist. Twins Rose and Fern Castle have always been each other’s person. Growing up Fern had a hard time navigating certain situations (while it is never explicitly stated Fern appears to be on the ASD spectrum) and Rose always guided her through them with ease. Now as adults, Rose is still right there to help guide Fern through life.
When Rose leaves town for a month Fern decides she wants to do something nice for Rose and in putting herself out there to make that happen she meets a man who understands her better than anyone else. With Wally’s help, and much to Rose’s chagrin, Fern realizes she is far more capable of living a well rounded and full life than Rose ever allowed.
There is a lot going on in this book. While present day is narrated by Fern, every few chapters we read about their tumultuous past through Rose’s journal.
I’m still not sure how I feel about this one. I really liked all of the side characters but I didn’t like either Rose or Fern and not liking the protagonist always affects how I feel about the book.
I can’t help but wonder if this is Ms. Hepworth’s first foray into psychological thrillers. I noticed she has written a bunch of family dramas in the past and I get the feeling this was her transition to the thriller genre. I commend her for attempting to expand and I’m actually interested in trying a different thriller by her to see how she’s grown as an author.

A really enjoyable twisty read. I think it was done well and very convincing although the alternative version of events is often a common thrilled storyline. I think Fern was done really well as a character and I appreciated her growth. There were a few holes and a few parts that fell like holes but overall a very enjoyable read.

This was a propulsive book. It's rare that I really can't put a book down but I was up til midnight reading this. Is it a great work of literature? No. Are there some unfortunate stereotypes at work? Yes. Does it ignore more than a few realities of how law enforcement works? Yeah, but no more so than the genre generally does. But it was a fun ride of a thriller.
