sometimes it’s nice to know im safe from these magic schools in books. sorry, that’s your entry trial? thank you very much i will be ignoring the call to adventure.
This book definitely isn't for everyone. It's meandering and confusing at times and deeply, deeply strange and unsettling.
It's a book about how nonsensical and irrational the world can be. it's about love as a state of fear, of all the things that can befall the people you love, and how ultimately powerless we are to control things outside ourselves. even ourselves. It's about the simultaneous power and futility of language.
also, time loops.
Not sure who I'd recommend this to, except for those who have disliked books in the past *because* they weren't weird enough. This one will probably be weird enough for you lol.

This book really resonated with me. Parts of it kept me up at night thinking. I am going to skip the 2nd and 3rd books of the series that deal with other characters, but will continue with 4th and 5th. I am curious about Sashka's story.
I quite enjoy books where I am confused and don't fully know what is going on, as long as there is a good reason for that. Sometimes it is because we are dropped into a situation where everyone knows what is going on, but it would be unnatural for them to discuss the entire backstory without it coming off weird. And sometimes, like this book, the protagonist knows as much as we do, and learns along with us.
Is it perfect? No, nothing really is. There are definitely some loose ends that aren't explained. And I don't mean that everything always needs to be explained, but certain unexplained things feel different than others (for example, the swimming naked or running at 5am, and other "tests" people had to do before enrolling at the institute).

I think this might be my new favourite book. It was exquisite.
