Solid entry in the Vera Stanhope series. Interesting development of the character Holly.

Enjoyable and intricate plot with lots of possible ways it could go and neatly didn’t. Interesting range of characters too

Just a classic Vera story. Great!

I got what I come to read Vera for—teamwork, a reasonably intriguing mystery, a resolution. I do agree with others about the distracting fat-shaming. Enough already, Ann Cleeves! I get that Vera is an obese character, but I couldn’t see the story value in laying it on so thickly.

Anyway, I’m enjoyed reading it while doing other things, such as a few long drives.

This was a middling Cleeves for me.  The drive to kill three people didn’t seem there for the eventual killer, and it was sometimes a struggle to tell the cast of characters apart.  Good for insomnia listening, though.

3.5 stars. I didn’t see how the murders would be resolved.
