Do not try to read this story outloud unless you are willing to jumble almost every word up, and then spend the next little while laughing at yourself. When you read out loud, if you're anything like me, you're going to try and fix the mixed up letters, then you will try not to (but your mind won't!). It gets confusing. I enjoyed this book, but I had to read it in my head.

I got this audio book because I was making a three hour drive with a three year old. Ok, When phrases like "Don't Thuck your Sumb" are shouted in an enthusiastic tone, they sound quite a bit like words you DO NOT WANT A THREE YEAR OLD TO REPEAT! This may be a book I should have read instead of listened to.

Although it takes a lot of dedication and literature genius to write a whole book using spoonerisms there is no denying that this was a hard read to get through but I can't be too harsh knowing that shel specifically wrote this book for his very young second child right after the death of his first-ever daughter.
he wanted it to be written for the purpose of only under 8 year olds children could have the patience to read it and to find it completely hilarious so obviously I am not the targeted demographic

To this day, this is one of the main things that I remember in my childhood. I even remember one of the poems that made me laugh, and laugh, and laugh when I was like. seven years old. I think that when I reread this in 2013, I didn't find it as funny. If I could find it today, amid my piles of books hidden around the house, might still enjoy it. I remember really liking Shel Silverstein's work, and I have a deeper appreciation of poetry now than I did 7 years ago. I'm sure this was funny, but for now I'll leave it with the rating I gave it back then.

I got this book at Powell's bookstore in Portland. I was with my fabulous friends Heather and her daughter, Laura.

These series of poems follow the main character, Runny Babbit, through his life in the woods with his family. They talk about all his adventures, from needing a new coat, to hugging and kissing a hedgehog. Each line has two words that have switched the first few letters, making the poems difficult but fun to read. Some words are easier to guess what they should mean, and others are more difficult. It really makes you slow down and read the poem thoroughly to understand what the author is trying to say.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone to read, not just children. First off, the illustrations are so uniques and adorable, they perfectly picture what I would expect a “peedy grig” (greedy pig) to look like. I found the most fascinating thing about this book was that even though the letters had been switched around to make these weird words, the author managed to keep the rhyme! It was so interesting to read a poem that seemingly made little to no sense and still have everything rhyme so well. The poems themselves were light and silly, making it an easy read full of laughter. I’m a bit biased about this since I love Shel Silverstein, but I’ve never read this book and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
