Love worldbuilding and the original concept turned on its head: what if the chosen one failed? What if he failed long ago? Kelsier is a great character.

No estoy bien. Han pasado muchas cosas. Llevo como 100 páginas en shock. Este libro entero es indescriptible. Amo a muchos personajes pero Kelsier ya... Es un nivel superior
Simply incredible. Unparalleled world building. Deep, connectable characters. Twists, turns, action, emotion. Picking up number 2 immediately.

My first brandy sandy book. Boy was it a treat. His world building and creativity is amazing.
I’m only giving 4 stars because I was a bit bored the first half. The world building took too long and had a lot of politics involved.
HOW DARE YOU HURT ME NEAR THE END

It was about time I joined the [a:Brandon Sanderson|38550|Brandon Sanderson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1394044556p2/38550.jpg] cult , and join it I did . [b:Mistborn: The Final Empire|7037744|Mistborn The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1)|Brandon Sanderson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1256340627s/7037744.jpg|66322] has probably become my favorite novel in the fantasy genre . It isn't just a book . Mistborn is an exhilarating , pulse-pounding experience .
"It's easy to believe in something when you win all the time...The losses are what define a man's faith"
You know that feeling , when sun rays break through clouds after heavy rainfall . Melancholic but oddly satisfying . A feeling of lightness . That's how I'm feeling right now . And a book rarely makes me feel like this . The last book which made feel like this was [b:Crooked Kingdom|22299763|Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2)|Leigh Bardugo|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1456172607s/22299763.jpg|42090179] by [a:Leigh Bardugo|4575289|Leigh Bardugo|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1437274413p2/4575289.jpg] .
The Final Empire has the simple theme of good vs evil at its core . But interesting cast of characters , fantastic world building and a unique magic system make this novel stand out from the others . Moreover this novel can stand well on its own and can be read as a standalone too . So if you aren't ready to commit to the whole series , you can still read this book . But be warned once you get taste of Sanderson's world you wouldn't be able to stop yourself .
"Our belief is often strongest when it should be weakest. That is the nature of hope.”
Mistborn is set in The Final Empire . A world where ash falls from the sky . It is ruled by the Lord Ruler , a tyrant , who was once the common people's hero . But now he rules the Empire with an iron hand . Skaa , the common people of the Empire are slaves to the nobles and have been living submissively for hundreds of years .
Allomancy is a kind of scientific magic system in which certain metals and their alloys are used or burned by Allomancers to enhance a variety of physical and mental abilities . Allomancers who can use/burn one metal are called Mistings . And those who can use more than one are called Mistborn .
The Final Empire tells the story of Vin , a street urchin who is rescued by a man named Kelsier . She finds out that she is a Mistborn and joins Kelsier's crew to do a job . But the job is to overthrow the Lord Ruler , and liberate the skaa people . Thus we follow a string of schemes and trials as the crew tries to achieve the impossible .
"I know how you feel my friend , Kelsier thought . I'm a thief , not a prophet . Sometimes , we just have to be what the job requires . "
The Final Empire is as much a character driven novel as a plot driven one . The characters are memorable even though some are small . Some of the most important characters are -
Kelsier , the survivor of Pits of Hathsin , is virtually the main protagonist of the novel . He is the charismatic con man , a powerful Mistborn , and the brains behind the whole 'overthrowing-the-Lord Ruler plan' . Especially , since he wants the exact revenge on the Lord Ruler for killing his wife . He is becomes like a fatherly figure to Vin .
"I know how you feel my friend , Kelsier thought . I'm a thief , not a prophet . Sometimes , we just have to be what the job requires . "
Vin , is a sixteen year old who gets entangled in Kelsier's plans . She didn't know that she was a Mistborn before Kelsier told her so . She is another main character . She becomes a spy and poses as a noblewoman to infiltrate the nobility . Her character development during the course of the novel impressed me the most . From a distrusting , scrawny girl she turns into a strong , caring character .
Dockson is Kell's best friend . Another con artist . He isn't an Allomancer . But he is the most serious member of the crew and works as a glue who holds them together .
Breeze is a Soother , ie , he burns brass to soothe people's emotions . He is probably the most intelligent person in the crew , though a bit selfish . And is a smooth talker too .
Hammond aka Ham is a Thug , and burns pewter for enhanced physical strength . He is a bit philosophical . I especially loved his banters with Breeze who was reluctant to talk with him .
Elend Venture might be one of the sweetest and genuinely lovable characters I've read in a long time . He is a nobleman and a heir to House Venture , one of the most powerful noble houses . He is Vin's love interest . It was really refreshing to read a love interest who wasn't being a prick for once . Elend was one of few nobles who was sympathetic to Skaa .
Clubs is an old grumpy man who doesn't get too involved with the crew members , but watches from the side line smiling proudly or scowling occasionally . He also happens to be a smoker , and burns copper the hide Mistborn who burn metals from others .
Spook/Lestibournes is the youngest member of the crew . He is a tineye , and burns tin for enhanced senses . He often speaks in slang .
There are some more minor characters . Like Marsh , Kelsier's brother . But I'm quite sure that from the next installment he'll have a more major role in the plot . Lord Renoux , the impostor nobleman who acted as Valette Renoux's (Vin's noblewoman persona) uncle . Then there is Yeden , a Skaa who wants to lead a rebellion and the crew's employer .
As I had said earlier in the review , this book was an exhilarating , pulse-pounding experience . Sanderson's action sequences are game-like . His writing style is fast paced . And the world building is fabulous . The city of Luthadel has been imprinted in my mind now .
I am not going to forget these characters anytime soon .
"You know", he said," it amazes me sometimes that we even try . With everything they've done to us - the deaths, the tortures, the agonies - you'd think that we would just give up on things like hope and love . But we don't . "
The Final Empire's ending was satisfying . Yes . It was a bit sad . But hopeful too . As I prefer . Bittersweet . I can live with that . A perfect conclusion to a perfect beginning .
Lastly I'd say , I am wholeheartedly satisfied with this book . It was a wonderful journey . Epic to say the least . I may have been late in reading a Sanderson book . But I'm not gonna stop now . Hopefully all his other books are as mesmerising as this one .
This was a buddy read with these two fantastic people - Manisha and Bhavik.

I admire authors who not only invent new magic systems but also create original political structures. This book does both really well. The worldbuilding is incredibly unique, and it’s clear a lot of thought went into it. Burning various metals as a source of magic is very interesting to read about.
I also appreciated the depth of the character relationships, especially the tension between doing what you believe is right versus what others expect or demand. There’s a strong undercurrent of self-reflection throughout the story that added a lot of emotional weight.
That being said, the heavy focus on political intrigue and strategic planning slowed things down for me. At times, I wished we saw more of the plans in action rather than just hearing about them. But besides that, I’d give this book a solid 4/5!!
