The Final Empire

This book seriously lives up to the hype and I wish I started it sooner. I loved every single character, with Vin becoming my new favorite FMC. I could not put this book down… could potentially be one of my favorites the entire year. (Also I didn’t think the magic was too confusing thank heavens)

loved how everything came together esp with the couple of Big Reveals at the end but so much of the lead up was such a pain to go through

another Sanderson book where the prose actually irked me

Plot, characters, and worldbuilding were all easy 5/5. What fell apart a little bit for me was that the writing style was a bit…bland and simplistic? I’m not really sure. There wasn’t much of an attempt to play with language or the structure of a novel here. Not that every author NEEDS to do that in every book, but this one just felt formulaic from that perspective.

I’m thoroughly hooked on the story, and have a feeling that I’ll be reading a lot of Sanderson this year.

Love worldbuilding and the original concept turned on its head: what if the chosen one failed? What if he failed long ago? Kelsier is a great character.
