This was an okay read for me. There was a lot that I liked-the characters, the theme about mental load, and the overall story. That said, there were a few parts of the book that, to me, felt too contrived. Perfect happy endings for each of the characters-that almost felt just like a “snap your fingers and it’s okay” vs the work to get there. (Think a love interest suddenly appearing and being in love). Overall, I’m glad I read it but likely wouldn’t recommend to others.

I LOVED this book!
Big thanks to Simon & Schuster and NetGalley for the ARC so I could read and review before it drops on June 27!!
Three friends find themselves in a moment where their lives have gone a bit sideways. Lauren is freshly divorced after discovering her husband's shady behavior. Madeleine's daughter may be spending the next year abroad. Sophie is dealing with an awful ex and some serious fomo.
They are all also struggling with the juggle to do everything - which is relatable AF. Particularly the things that, unfortunately, are known as "wife"duties - the mental load things like organizing health appointments/forms, overseeing all things related to kids' schools, errands, keeping up the house, etc. As someone who lives by herself, this is VERY real and as I have been dealing with home reno projects for weeks, my KINGDOM for someone to help with my mental load!
The idea takes root - what if they created an app to help with this? What begins as a bit of a joke - call it the Wife app, they decided after several cocktails - quickly snowballs. And as they work through this process, they all evolve a bit too.
I really got into this one - I fell for all three of our leading gals, even though they are so different. I am a sucker for authenticity and flawed characters - it makes things interesting and easier to get invested.
I also appreciated the commentary on society, the patriarchy, and how we value women, partnership and traditional roles. And seriously, I would love a wife app.
Will post this review on Goodreads, twitter @sarahncotton, retail sites and my bookstagram @scottonreads

I really enjoyed this book! Really giving power to the women and I was so proud to see how far all three of them came.
If you could outsource the mental load, would you? As a working mother I am very familiar with the buzz terms of today- default parent, mental load and like many I struggle with navigating and managing all those like the main characters, Lauren and her friends Madeline and Sophie. The mental load for this three NYC women is compounded by the fact that it led to the demise of their marriages ( along with cheating, alcoholic among others). As the navigate solo parenting ( but really, they were already doing it before their divorces, co-parenting, and dating and sex post-divorce they come with a revolutionary idea to help other women by creating The Wife App. The Wife App lets spouses outsource some of the more mundane tasks that keep life, marriages, and parenthood flowing. As she scales up in her creation, she learns a lot about herself and modern motherhood.
This book seemed to move at a fast pace which was good and sometimes too much. I found the story pretty unbelievable. Maybe that was due to how fast the book moved but there were just many plot elements that were just too rushed. Getting the app up to usage without a real business plan, few negative experiences that were glossed over, Beatrice and Sophie, to name a few. I enjoyed the idea and the story and read the book pretty quickly, but the large holes in the story dampened the story a bit for me. Overall, this was a fun, quick read, but there was a lot packed into the story, and it just didn't mesh together as well as I expected.
