The Wife App by Carolyn Mackler is a treat that showcases women’s perseverance and entrepreneurship. This novel follows three best friends who decide to monetize the mental load and seek revenge on their ex-husbands. As their app becomes a roaring success, their lives take unexpected turns, testing their strength and friendship.
Mackler’s storytelling is engaging and filled with humor, making it easy to get lost in the lives of these dynamic women. While the ending feels a bit rushed compared to the well-paced beginning, it doesn’t overshadow the overall enjoyment of the story.
The concept of the Wife App is intriguing and serves as a clever commentary on modern marriage. Mackler expertly combines elements of revenge and redemption, resulting in a rollercoaster ride of emotions that keeps readers invested until the very end.
In conclusion, The Wife App is a highly entertaining debut novel from Carolyn Mackler, showcasing her ability to craft compelling characters and explore themes of friendship and empowerment. Despite a slightly rushed ending, this book is a delightful read that reflects on the complexities of love, entrepreneurship, and self-discovery. I highly recommend it, giving it 4 stars for its engaging storytelling and relatable characters.

This started off well enough, but there were several issues that became apparent as the book went on. First, there is an utter lack of conflict...and as a rom-com reader, I normally hate too much conflict and drama. I've never said a book needed MORE of it, but here we are. I caught myself realizing there were only 40 pages left and we hadn't had any big dramatic moments. Also, one of the plotlines really took a sharp left turn with not enough backstory to justify the change. And of course the end of book went at warp speed. This felt messy and like it needed a stronger edit to cover less ground more effectively.
I can appreciate what The Wife App is about- women are no longer just stay at home wives/moms anymore. We seem to have to juggle work, kids, home and random errands. While all that is true I feel the relationships in The Wife App were extreme. Not all men refuse to listen or help around the house. There are definitely some out there sure but I feel this book solely focused on bad relationships. There are some fair points and I could relate to some of it.
Since I didn’t agree with some of the stuff in the book it felt like it dragged on in the middle. The last few chapters I did enjoy even if the ending seemed too perfect.

So this book touches on an issue that is near and dear to my heart, and that is the mental load of a wife. This concept is not new and has been written about a bit, especially in the book Fair Play.
This novel approaches this issue with what it presents as a novel idea, The Wife App. Lots of set up and conversation around the idea and creation of this app.
I’m giving this book 3 stars, not because this isn’t a real issue, but because this book doesn’t feel like it’s breaking any new ground. A few weeks ago I was literally advertised an app on Instagram doing pretty much the same thing-this is something that already exists!

Thank you netgalley for this advance copy.
Unfortunately this was not my cup of tea. The characters were very unlikeable and I think the author hates being married herself based on his book. I really wanted to like this book but it was not the lighthearted story I was expecting.
