Glenn Kleier has done it again. Despite the lengthy wait between his first book (The Last Day) and this, his second book, Kleier proves himself to be a worthy powerhouse of thriller/suspense. I started reading this book about 7a this morning, and I did not put it down until just now (5:45p). Caught me right by the nucleus accumbens and refused to let go.

I tried to explain the genre to a friend by describing it as "religious suspense fiction," and the friend replied, "Oh, like Dan Brown." My friends, Dan Brown is a poor man's Glenn Kleier. No spoilers here. Just a strong recommendation that you get right on reading this book.

Tackling religion is often a tricky endeavor, yet Kleier manages to do it in a thrilling and elegant way. This Dan Brown-esque novel is both exciting and thought provoking in a way that will have readers turning pages. With allusions to both historical literature and art, those with an interest in the cultural beliefs of heaven and hell will certainly appreciate this book.

I enjoyed the book and its premise, as well as some great references to history, literature, art and theology. The idea to have a number of pictures of people, places and artwork referred to in the book end-noted and posted on a website was a good one. I don't want to give too much away, but I felt a little less connected to the characters in this book than the author's previous book (which was so amazing he couldn't have matched it). It also felt a little too influenced by The DaVinci Code and similar books. Overall though, these are minor issues, and it was still a very good book.
