Super cute! T Kingfisher writing middle grade fantasy makes a lot of sense, I’ve just mostly aged out of the genre. There were a few “letting out a breath she didn’t know she was holding” though…

An interesting alternate history fantasy featuring magical paintings, an intelligent talking crow, and a vengeful mandrake. The patented Kingfisher charm is on display here, and I did enjoy the characters and world building. I just didn't find it quite as fun a read as her other works.
