I really liked the set up and execution of this book. First of all, for a mystery, the world building and character work was really well done. Elle was a well rounded character and I loved Martin - he is one of the best side-character book husbands I've ever read :) I don't know, his character was just super thoughtful and fun, and worked well with Elle and the plot.

I also thought that there was some pretty well thought out character development. Elle puts herself right into these cases, and I think at first you think of her as one of those true crime junkies that brings light to cases (but always ends up inserting themself into the narrative). BUT, in a huge plot twist, you come to understand why, for this case in particular. I didn't see it coming at all (which I feel like I should have...) but that was definitely a game changer.

The shifts between podcast narration and real life kept me on my toes and it was pretty well written. I didn't love the inclusion of
TCK's background, just because it felt kind of hypocritical...in the end Elle deletes the podcast because she thought it gave TCK too much fame (which is exactly what he wanted), yet the author chose to include his POV and story? I know this is fictional, but I think that it was supposed to reflect reality to some extent, right?
. Overall, I think this is good commentary on true crime and the dramatization of crime in the media.

Ya’ll… This book is so under-discussed! I love a good whodunnit, and good psychological manipulation can make a book really stand out. I won this title from a @goodreads giveaway months ago, and I wish I read it sooner. Elle, an independent investigator that solves cold cases with the help of her podcast followers, is a very intriguing main character. I loved that Clarke was also able to really given the villian- a serial killer known as The Countdown Killer- depth. Along with the mind games that the story plays on Elle- and readers-, Clarke managed to keep me guessing. If you haven’t read Girl, 11 yet, you should do so ASAP! 🔎

Girl, 11 is an entertaining and gripping thriller which will be a hit for all true crime podcast fanatics. Within the pages we follow Elle Castillo on her true crime podcast, Justice Delayed, in which she concentrates on the infamous serial killer TCK who still remains at large.

The format is set up with a mix of recordings from the podcast, monologues from Elle and flashbacks from TCK's childhood. The alternating POV's and timelines really worked to keep me interested and I wanted to begin a deep dive googling this imaginary killer.

At times I did find myself rolling my eyes at the characterisation of one or two of the characters, some moments were a little far-fetched and at times Elle can be a frustrating person to support but overall I was invested to find out the truth.

I switched between both the book and the audiobook and really found the audiobook brought the true crime podcast aspect to life.

Dark and thrilling, sure to to be of interest to true crime podcast fans.
