Gory, cozy, and funny. Maud must learn what she is and adapt to her new unlife. She'd like to be left alone to work on new crafting projects that just happen to use body parts and blood as major materials. Unfortunately angry villagers and clergy would rather she not exist.

Maud is great but there aren't really any other well developed characters. Most folks don't survive long enough to leave an impression and her undead minions aren't exactly strong willed.

Content warning for lots of animal and human deaths, although many don't stay down for long.

Audiobook is delightful.

all reviews in one place: night mode reading; skaitom nakties rezimu

About the Book: Due to seemingly random chance, a necromancer targeted Maud’s village to sacrifice for his spell. But thanks to some heroes, failed miserably. And so here Maud is, a lich, and he’s dead, in a pile of people just as dead. Having gone through this traumatic event, she’d like to go back to her life, garden, pets and animals. But will those damned heroes let her? No! They trapse in, threaten her animals, hurt her sweet cat, try to burn down her home, those pesky… Well, she’ll show them how to mess with a witch! Well… Lich.

My Opinion: It’s a very fun and funny book, full of various little adventures and events, nothing overbearing or requiring full attention. Perfect book to relax with a little, especially if you’re a gamer too, might be amusing to read a book from a mob perspective. Lots of simple but well written characters, among whom there were angry undead geese who were just absolutely spectacular. If nothing else, read it for them.

A fun and surprisingly cozy story about a woman who is accidentally made into a Lich. She just wants to spend time crafting, but Paladins keep getting in the way. It can be pretty grisly, as Maud’s crafting now includes bones and flesh, but it’s all told with such levity and practicality, that it comes across as cozy slice-of-life. The balance of Maud’s morality isn’t always pulled off perfectly, it was a little unclear if she was evil, amoral, fighting a Lich’s innate mindset, or just unhinged. Some plot points also seem to happen a little to easily for Maud.

Recommended if you like fantasy, slice-of-slice, and necromancy.

Fun read with an interesting perspective. Not sure if I'll read book #2, not entirely my kind of humor.
