I fucking loved this novel.
Deep wisdom in a historical context. A man's spiritual journey for the meaning of life. His inner struggle with suffering, lust, greed, and the rituals of religion, and how he finally finds peace and wisdom!
“Kamala” might be my favorite section of this novel.
"Beautiful and red is Kamala's mouth, but just try to kiss it against Kamala's will, and you will not obtain a single drop of sweetness from it."
Siddhartha gains the experience of living a worldly life with a woman, but learns that following his sensual desires doesn’t bring him enlightenment.
"Love can be obtained by begging, buying, receiving it as a gift, finding it in the street, but it cannot be stolen. In this, you have come up with the wrong path. No, it would be a pity, if a pretty young man like you would want to tackle it in such a wrong manner."
I don't want to get too much into this novel, because I'll start rambling. You just need to read it! This will stick with me for a while. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys thought-provoking reads. The writing style isn’t too hard to comprehend. It’s written like scripture. It’s beautiful!
