⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.75/5: The Guncle is back, this time traveling to Europe for a family wedding. Most of the same delightful family dynamic exists here and GUP’s fiery gay sarcasm is too. I enjoyed the second half way more than the first half which felt more cookie cutter Euro trip. The ending is really heart warming and I just wished that we could have had that feeling more in the book. Still, I enjoyed the book and the depth of these characters.

I think I messed up, reading this so soon after The Celebrants. Rowley’s writing is a delight and I should have spaced them out to make them feel more special. There are lines that had me laughing out loud. However, now that I’m more familiar with this author, I find the arc of the story a bit predictable. It’s the kind of book where that predictability is perfectly fine, but it does keep it from feeling as magical as the original Guncle did.
