This was a good exercise on the what if, I believe. I certainly enjoyed it, and it kept the spirit of the original, even though I think I like Austen's much better. She's just hard to compete with, isn't she. For most of the middle—truly most of the book—I couldn't help but keep thinking how right a decision it was for Austen to have Elizabeth reject him despite what would've been, as here presented, likely the best choice for an offer she'd get. It just lends so much more dynamism to the story. Not that this was stagnant but a lot of it was them working off misunderstandings, as they must, and that gets you a little frustrated. It did highlight just how powerful that one letter he wrote to her was in changing both their characters and relationship, how much Darcy needed the abrupt let down and Lizzie to have the veil ripped away from her eyes for the furthering of their own characters, because this whole book is an exercise on accomplishing in several instances what that letter did in one fell swoop. This is not criticism, it's simply what transformative (?) works are. The easiest book I've read so far, I believe.

EDIT: Marking it down .25 points because  in retrospect, and perhaps this is silly to say considering the nature of the work, its greatest feature is the baseline upon it builds itself. I did enjoy it, but I don't think I would've been as kind if it was its own story, and so I'm being fair and marking it down.

It made me blush and giggle and want to marathon Jane Austen books and watch all the adaptations out there and especially re-watch for the 100000th time Pride & Prejudice (2005)

This was gooooood!

I thought the author did a great job of keeping in the tone of Pride and Prejudice, and I enjoyed Darcy and Elizabeth. However, ultimately I just could not accept as believable the choice Elizabeth makes to marry Darcy regardless of how she feels about him - it goes against her entire character.

Needed this to be like 3000 pages longer …

A bit heavy handed in places but loved this reimagining!! It felt true to Austen. Very readable and IMO fast paced despite it being very character oriented without much event-based plot. I thoroughly enjoyed it especially right after finishing P&P a day ago.

This characterization got me weak at the knees.
