I wish I was a good enough writer to convey exactly how much I loved this book. But I'm not, so I'm left with writing a review that will never do it justice. I think there are rare times in life when you read a book and you feel like it was written just for you. I can recognize that this book will never be as popular as some of the other juvenile or YA fiction out there, but it was perfect for me. I loved everything about it, and I can't think of one thing I didn't like.
For starters, this is what fairy stories should be like. The fairies were not humans with wings like I see so much of in stories now--they were small, completely different, exactly how fairies should be and so rarely are. Anyone who really knows me knows how much I love fairies. I have a fairly large collection, including a collection of warrior fairies, which made this book even better for me, because the main character in this is a warrior fairy. And she's so very likable and strong. This is what I've been missing in YA fiction. I'm sick of the simpering, man-obsessed girls, and this was exactly the opposite of that.
The other characters were wonderful. I loved the crows, more than I ever thought was possible to love animal characters. I loved the language, the writing, and the artwork--oh my goodness, I want to hang it on my walls; I just wish there would have been more! And I'm so excited that there's another book in this series for me to read. I would highly recommend this to YA fantasy fans--this will go on my very small list of all-time favorites.

This is a charming book. It has all of Laini Taylor's amazing imagination and beautiful writing! I found the beginning slow but became truly engrossed in the story later on. I loved the slang that the faeries used and all the characters were charming. My only criticism would be that it is maybe a bit too complicated for younger readers?
Either way, I loved it.

Wow, this book was so good! The concepts were intriguing, and well played. I know that there's a series in mind for these books, but this could quite easily stand alone. The characters were fantastic, the plot amazing. All in all, an awesome book! Also, the fairies are not pink and create stupid magic. They hunt devils for Pete's sake! Warrior fairies are always cool.

Laini Taylor doesn't disappoint. This was delightful and will appeal to a wide age range. Her prose is beautiful, as always. The characters are endearing, even many of the bad ones. I would like my own flock of crows now.

Really loved this book!! A story that ties together a fantasy world with fairy people and the world of humans. It reminded me of the feeling I had reading Eragon and other stories when I was younger. Magpie was a sweet protagonist and I liked her relationship with her crow posse.

Magpie Windwitch is an adventurous fairy, who hunts, captures and imprisons devils in their ancient bottles. However, when an old evil named Blackbringer wants to unmake the world it is up to Magpie and her friends to save Dreamdark. This is a well written fantasy which is very descriptive and in-depth, Magpie is a strong and independent Fairy, and this book has lovely drawings so you can picture all the different characters. This book should be more well-known than it is and I recommend it to everyone who likes fantasy with a brilliant story.

Super cute story. I'd really like to read the sequel. Too bad the cheapest a used copy is being sold for is $30. I really think they need to reproduce these books since Laini Taylor has gained popularity. I'm sure her fans would appreciate being able to read her first works without paying ridiculous prices. On a bright note this book is fairly easy to find and it ends well so that you don't necessarily HAVE to read the sequel.
