I really enjoy Jeffrey Toobin’s writing. I have also read The Run of His Life and in both of these books he does an excellent job at placing the events at hand in their historical context. These crimes don’t happen in a vacuum and Toobin’s detailed research really helps provide readers with a deeper understanding of why these events unfolded the way they did.

Speaking specifically about American Heiress, it’s a mind-boggling story about which I knew very little and truly enjoyed learning about. Buckle up because you’re in for a wild ride.

As a history buff and true crime lover, the Patty Hearst kidnapping has always fascinated me even though I was far too young at the time to understand it or the aftermath.
This book was engrossing from start to finish. It was well researched and organized. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was excellent.
There’s some name-dropping of people associated with the SLA and the Hearst family that is quite eyebrow-raising.
A captivating, thought-provoking read!

It was an okay True Crime audiobook.  I found some of it interesting, but at other times it seemed to drag, at least to me.  Patti Hearst was just 18 when she was kidnapped one night by a radical group.  She joined the group soon after being kidnapped by them.  Though it sounded to me like a good case for Stockholm Syndrome.  It had been discussed a few years before her arrest, but it was never brought up during her case.  Overall, this is just a meh for me.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

An amazing roller coaster ride through 1970's American insanity. Toobin's evenhanded style with his subject matter is stretched micron thin by the craziness of this story.

an interesting read, but it felt more like a story to me than potentially the unbiased truth.

It took me a while to get through this book but I still found it very interesting because the crime is just so unique. It was also pretty unintentionally funny at times.
