relaxing fast-paced

Fun and light read about so-called Real cats, an endangered species of those cats who don't like to use collars and look like a car has wrecked them a few times over. Some things feel a bit outdated nowadays, but this is not a non-fiction book so it's ok. The chapters are short and dwell into the various areas of a real cat ownership, like feeding the cat (not going to eat those fancy TV catfoods you bought it), taking or trying to take it to the vet and so on. Also a funny anectode linking Schrödinger's cat experiment and also timetraveling into these Real cats because they just seemingly randomly appear and disappear somewhere.

A humourous short read for those people who like cats, and maybe those who like dogs more. I was entertained at least and the pictures on the book were nice touch, though I didn't like their style that much. 3,5 stars going down to 3 stars this time.

(2019 Reread) Despite its age, this book is still hilarious to any cat owner, and the way that little anecdotes are told is unique and funny. It's a fairly short book but still a delight.

(2018 Reread) This short little treatise will be quite amusing to anyone who's owned a cat, or at least understands about cat ownership. It's told in an entertaining manner and you can just imagine that all the abstracted tales really did happen to Terry and his cats. However, it is showing its age, with many of the references being firmly stuck in the 80s (when this book was written).

A delightfully goofy book. More than once I looked over at my own cat, who happened to be snoozing haphazardly next to me, and thought how on the nose it truly was.

Popsugar 2016 Reading Challenge: a book that's under 150 pages.

I'm sure it seems like I'm just running through these, with my 3 books finished in 3 days, but in truth, this one was super short and the other two it took me...a month and a half to read? Anyway, my pace is likely to slow dramatically when the semester kicks back into gear again.
Oh, right, about this book. It was introduced to me by friends with the words "we have a surprise Pratchett you're going to love." It's for people who have cats (these two friends don't, but are my our cat-sitters and enjoy our asshole cat more than seems probable for anyone who isn't his Cat Parent). I can't imagine anyone who isn't into cats enjoying it, but all cat owners are probably going to read it, giggle a lot, and come away with the sure knowledge that their cat is a Real Cat. Granted, most of the examples are country Real Cats, as opposed to the city-dwelling kind, but yeah. The cat personality is captured beautifully by Sir Terry, as if we didn't already know, from how he wrote Greebo and You, that he was a cat-loving kind of guy. The whole thing is delightful and takes very little time, but I also have to call out the bit about the tortoise as especially hilarious. Pratchett + tortoises is always a good time (see also Small Gods and that essay he wrote about his process writing Small Gods). Pratchett + cats, ditto.

Първата книга на Тери Пратчет, която чета. Даде ми я приятелка и ме увери, че ще се смея много. Е, за съжаление не се смях, но все пак ми беше забавно.

Delightful send up of the Campaign for Real Ale as well as affectionate snark regarding the common house cat.
funny lighthearted

Light-hearted and fluffy. Great for a Sunday morning read but a little forced in some parts. The part detailing travelling with cats is very funny, though.

2021 reread: still light and fluffy. First read of it as a non-cat-owner though.

A quick, amusing read, from a man who could make anything funny (while often still providing some very keen insight into the world - disc, or otherwise - and those that inhabit it).

Enjoyable enough even for a non cat person.
