Love a grumpy single dad MMC. This is the third book in the series and there’s another somewhat related crossover series that precedes this one so there are character crossovers. I didn’t read the other series or the first book in the series only book 2 and didn’t feel lost. I preferred this book over book 2
If you loved the first book, you’re going to love the second. Doctor Heartless was sensational from start to finish
Thank you to Grey’s Promotions for sending me an ebook Advanced Readers Copy for me to read and review. This is my spoiler-free & honest review.

I first came across J.Saman thanks to Grey’s Promotions last year via the second book in this series, Doctor Mistake. What drew me into that read was the accidental pregnancy trope—a controversial trope among many—, and although Doctor Heartless didn’t carry on that trope as a main theme or sub-theme, I wanted to follow the series on and see where this grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers, full of steam romance would take me.

Before the plot/storyline had a chance to develop, the opening was off to a start with quite literally, a bang! Pun intended. Landon, aka ‘Doctor Heartless’, is quite the character! Pun, again, intended. Who we get to see in the opening to this novel is the polar opposite of the grumpy character we will see later on, but was as charming as he was at knocking my socks off! Cheeks we’re aflame and blushing wish vigour. Woah! J.Saman has written one hell of a beast in bed and I’m all here for it!
‘He pretended to be someone else, and I didn’t ask a lot of questions’.
This angle of secrecy is always something I love when it comes up in books. When one character knows something the other doesn’t, and decides to keep it either intentionally or not so intentionally, just does it for me. I love the sneaky suspense and/or drama it creates when it all comes to an explosive head. J.Saman wove some creative comedy into moments throughout the book when this came up as a topic between characters, providing lighthearted relief and many a side-eye glare from Elle. The moments that made me laugh definitely balanced the tenseness felt from the page, for sure. J.Saman knows how to give both the good and the bad (not literally bad, but those moments that leave us screaming at the page/screen, having us reach for our bookish tissues etc..), and showcase how her superb writing and it’s styles can create a truly unforgettable story.
Speaking of storyline, let’s talk about it here in Doctor Heartless (as much as one can without dropping a spoiler!).
There was so much packed into this novel and for a novel that was already 95K-word-strong read (which I love!), that is a true testament to the author. It doesn’t feel like you’re reading too much, or that there’s too much going on for you to process at all. Everything is just right and I was actually sad to swipe the last page closed. Landon, Elle and Landon’s daughter Stella were true joys to get to know and read about, I didn’t want the last page to come! I especially loved who J.Saman wrote Stella to be in terms of her sexuality. You’ll know when you read it for yourselves, but I’ve never read about a character at that age knowing herself to be who she feels she is, and the amount of respect and dignity given to the character and the topic was immensely commendable.
If you’re looking to start a brand new read and/or series, I would recommend Doctor Heartless. Go back and read the first two by all means, but this is my favourite of the series so far and I’m putting it on my Amazon paperback wishlist right now.
I’m thrilled that this is my first ever five star rating for J.Saman, and I hope that I can give many more well-deserved ones to her in the future!

A soulful serenade with an ever changing voice. Landon and Elle are lyrically stunning, but slightly off key. Saman speaks the language of love with a brokenness that is drowning in beauty. Doctor Heartless seduces with heartache and inspires with emotion. You can't help but fall in love.
3.5/5
Not bad! I think the end and the drama was kind of stupid, but other than that it was enjoyable.

The previous book in this series was my first by J. Saman and I really enjoyed it so I knew I was going to want to read the next book Doctor Heartless and this was even better than the last one! Landon was such a hard and easy character to love all at the same time. He is a grumpy, angry man with very little words to speak. He tends to be very harsh and speaks before he thinks. But underneath it all he has a heart full of love to give. Landon carries the pain from his wife’s death and doesn’t think he ever can love again. When Elle walks into his life with her own pain and heartache but still manages to smile every day, Landon knew then that she was going to change his life. He kept trying to push her away which lead to a lot of angry conversations and some intense tension between them.
Landon’s 13y/o daughter Stella takes a liking to Elle and they develop a friendship. Elle helps Stella learn how to cook, a way Stella feels close to her mother. Stella is such a smart lovely girl, who was such a big part of this story. While Stella was getting closer to Elle, Landon was trying his hardest to keep his distance from her. The problem is, they have an undeniable connection that keeps pulling them together. Everytime they would take 1 step forward, Landon would take 2 steps back and go back to hating her.
Elle’s history with her ex husband, sister and parents really broke my heart. I don’t think I have ever hated other characters as much as I do them. Elle is such a strong woman to be able to even smile again after everything they have done to her. I loved how Elle put herself out there even when Landon kept rejecting her. Elle fought to get any kind of relationship with Landon. Will Elle’s past come back to threaten her future? Can Landon work through his pain and give a relationship with Elle a try? This book was packed full of steam and sexual tension. They will make you swoon and maybe even a little angry but wow this was a good one.
