I stumbled upon Energy Follows Thought while searching for something to listen to while puttering around the house. I didn't really know what to expect, and it was entirely different than anything I've listened to before. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed getting to know the stories behind some of his biggest hits.
Told in a wise and candid manner, Willie explores his song writing process, his inspiration, on finding his voice, and the relationships he developed. What really works with this book is the creative structure. Lyrics are showcased on one page and on the following page there is a story about the song. There are also some pictures interspersed throughout. I'd highly recommend the audio, narrated by Ethan Hawke, but being able to also flip through a physical copy is an added bonus.
Energy Follows Thought is a tribute to Willie's legacy. It offers a behind the scenes glimpse into Willie's career and song writing. At 90 years young, it's his meditation on love and loss, life and mortality. A true gift as people will be able to read about his inspiration long after he has gone.
