i really enjoyed this trilogy. while a few things bothered me occasionally, overall it's a well-developed story with robust worldbuilding and genuinely compelling characters. however, i still strongly feel that the first book was easily the standout, and the subsequent two could have been stronger. i know that's an unpopular opinion, but it's just how i feel about it.

I’ve just finished this book and I am absolutely speechless. Six stars. God tier. Brain chemistry permanently altered. I will never be the same.

I genuinely don’t know if I’m in shock, awe, or emotional ruin — probably all three. The love, the pain, the sacrifices… it’s all *too much* in the best way. Pierce Brown really looked at us and said, ‘you thought it couldn’t get worse? Let’s fix that.’

I couldn’t imagine a better ending to this first arc. It’s raw, heartbreaking, and somehow still full of hope. Do I wish we got to see everyone happy? Yes. Do I feel like it’s truly over? Absolutely not — but that’s the beauty of it.

Darrow, you’ve officially ruined all future male protagonists for me. His speeches, his growth, his *heart* — unmatched. And Mustang? A goddess among women. Her strength, her confidence, her brilliance… I was cheering for her every step of the way. Together they own my entire soul.

Holiday deserves her flowers too — loyal, fierce, and quietly powerful. She held everything together when the world was falling apart, and her strength hit me just as hard as any battle scene.

Sevro is potentially the most chaotic, unhinged, perfect character out. I love him with my whole being and fear for him constantly.

That plot twist? I have never been so completely flabbergasted by a book in my life. I experienced every stage of grief within this book and yet, I’ve started Iron Gold immediately.

Some opinions: I do like Mustang as a character but it's ironic how Cassius was the one who saw and comforted Darrow at his lowest point and Mustang didn't have the chance to see him straight out the box; ie, I quickly fell more in love with Cassius and Darrow's relationship in this book.
I rated this lower than Golden Son because of the slow middle but the commentary on god complexes and slavery was actually kind of interesting (even though this whole series definitely reflects the era in which it was written).
I hate how Ragnar was killed off...he was meant for so many more great things...

I just couldn’t believe Roque’s character change
and everything about the final part seemed rushed. However, the bromance was rewarding (I did have to change some of the cannon in my head and made a tracklist to these two himbos in space: please, someobdy convince me that Taylor Swift's The Great War isn't about these two idiots because I just can't unhear it...).
Also: Sevro and Victra should have had more backstory than this kind of insta-love...they deserve so much more (wondering if there's a spin-off to their plotline).
